Chinese state media: Mine blast kills 74

BEIJING, China (CNN) -- The death toll from a coal mine blast in northern China climbed Sunday to 74, the state-run media Xinhua News Agency said.

Some 114 miners were hospitalized as a result of the incident, including six miners in critical condition, said Xinhua.

The number of deaths rose as rescue workers continued to pull victims from the shaft of the mine in Shanxi province, where dozens of miners remained trapped.

The blast occurred at about 2 a.m. Sunday (1 p.m. ET Saturday) near the provincial capital, Taiyuan, Xinhua said.

The mine -- one of China's largest coal producers -- has an annual production capacity of 5 million tons. It is operated by the Shanxi Coking Coal Group, Xinhua said.

They never regard life as a precious thing, or they just regard their lives precious. Higher-level ppl's lives are always valuable than lower-level ppl's, rich's lives are always valuable than poor's, urban ppl's lives are always valuable than rural ppl's.

They never understand that everyone's life should have equal respect, shame on them.

I just saw the news on TV. What a tragedy...

The worse thing is you'll never know about other minor accidents, which should get no less attention.
